Sheriff’s Office Conducts “Operation Community First” to Verify Violent Offender Compliance

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Offender Registration Unit (ORU) led a multi-day initiative known as Operation Community First to ensure violent offenders living in western Sedgwick County are in compliance with registration requirements.

From Sept. 15-19, 2025, deputies worked extended hours across western Sedgwick County, including Wichita and surrounding municipalities to verify addresses, confirm employment and living arrangements, and document compliance or violations.

The enforcement focused specifically on registered violent offenders. Out of 238 offenders checked, 228 were in full compliance. Deputies identified nine cases requiring follow-up, and one criminal investigation was initiated. The operation resulted in a 96 percent compliance rate.

Operation Community First reflects our commitment to public safety. By verifying violent offenders are following the law, we strengthen community trust and ensure our community members can feel safe in their neighborhoods.

The ORU monitors 3,697 registered offenders in Sedgwick County, including 1,819 sex offenders, 1,057 violent offenders, 818 drug offenders and three general or court-ordered registrations.

The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to proactive enforcement and transparency to keep Sedgwick County communities safe.
