Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal single-vehicle crash in northwest Sedgwick County

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening in northwest Sedgwick County.

At approximately 8:38 p.m. March 17, 2026, deputies, along with Sedgwick County EMS and Sedgwick County Fire District 1, responded to a reported injury crash near 21st Street North and 247th Street West. Emergency Communications received an iPhone Crash Detection notification but was unable to make contact with the subscriber.

The driver and sole occupant of a gray Chevrolet Trax, identified as 60-year-old Stephen Bradley Farmer of rural Mount Hope, died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

According to a preliminary investigation, the Chevrolet Trax was traveling westbound on 21st Street North when it left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a field entrance and rolled several times. The crash ejected Farmer from the vehicle.

Investigators do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to Farmer’s family and friends.
