2026 Wichita Sales Tax Election

There will be a Special Sales Tax Election held within the City of Wichita on March 3, 2026. 

This election is only open to voters who live within city limits of Wichita.

Voters will have three ways to vote - early, by mail or in person! Election Day voting will be held from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at your assigned polling location.

Ballot Question

PROPOSITION NO. 1 - CITY-WIDE RETAILERS’ SALES TAX

Shall the following be adopted?

  1. Shall the City of Wichita, Kansas, be authorized, pursuant to S.A. 12-187 et seq., to impose a one percent (1.0%) city-wide retailers' sales tax to be effective July 1, 2026, and which will terminate no later than June 30, 2033, the revenues derived therefrom to be applied as follows?
    1. An amount not to exceed $225 million dollars of such tax applied to Public Safety costs for support of City police and fire facility construction and maintenance, the acquisition of vehicles, apparatus and equipment and other purposes related to providing Police and Fire Services for the City;
    2. An amount not to exceed $250 million dollars of such tax applied to pay the costs for Revitalization of Century II (not to exceed $25 Million) and Upgraded and Expanded Convention Center Improvements (not to exceed $225 Million);
    3. An amount not to exceed $150 million dollars of such tax applied for Property Tax Relief;
    4. An amount not to exceed $150 million dollars of such tax applied to establish a restricted-special fund, with earnings from such fund to be reinvested into this special fund, to support Homeless and Housing Services by funding affordable housing projects and programs, shelter facilities, a multi-agency center and its operations and related services for people experiencing homelessness; and
    5. An amount not to exceed $75 million dollars of such tax applied for Development and Construction of a New Downtown Public Performing Arts Center.

Interested in Early Voting?

Early In-Person Voting will be available at the Sedgwick County Election Office during regular business hours beginning February 17, 2026. Early In-Person Voting held at the Sedgwick County Election Office will end at noon on March 2, 2026.

Satellite Early In-Person voting will be available February 26 to February 27, 10 am - 6pm and February 28, 9 am - 1pm at the satellite locations. Satellite locations will be shown below once finalized.

Important Dates 
10 - Feb Registration for the Wichita Sales Tax Election closes at 11:59 PM.
11 - Feb Sedgwick County Election Office begins mailing advance by mail ballots for the Wichita Sales Tax Election. 
17 - Feb First day of Early in Person Voting for the Wichita Sales Tax Election at the Sedgwick County Election Office (8 am - 5 pm). 
24 - Feb Last day to submit advance by mail ballot application for the Wichita Sales Tax Election. 
26 - Feb Early in-person voting available at satellite early voting locations from February 26 to February 27 (10 am - 6 pm). 
28 - Feb Additional day of in-person voting at satellite early voting locations (9 am - 1 pm). 
2 - Mar Additional day of Early in Person Voting at the Sedgwick County Election Office (8 am - 12 pm). 
3 - Mar Wichita Sales Tax Election. Election Day Voting will be held from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at assigned voting locations.
