The Education Workgroup reviewed the Urban Institute Upward Mobility Framework, with particular alignment within the pillar High-Quality Education. Upward Mobility Framework | Urban Institute | Upward Mobility Initiative Data reviewed showed Sedgwick County preschool enrollment around 36% for ages 3–4 and approximately 90% high school completion, prompting discussion about the gap between graduation and college or career readiness.

Proposed CHIP Goals:

  • Draft Goal 1: Equip families with resources, support, and education to strengthen early childhood development and school readiness from pregnancy through age 8.
  • Draft Goal 2: Increase community-based support for families and caregivers of middle and high school youth to prepare youth for future education or career pathways.

Populations of Focus:

  • Families spanning multiple life stages (pregnancy, preschool, middle school, etc.) and potentially returning learners

Strategies and Initiatives Discussed:

  • Improving awareness of community resources

Next Steps:

  • Work will continue to define measurable indicators and review existing resource directories before the next meeting.

No workgroup meeting in March. Lens/co-chair meeting is scheduled for March 26th. The workgroup will meet next in April. For questions, email HealthCHIP@sedgwick.gov.
