Health Department To Offer Free HIV Testing

In honor of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD), the Sedgwick County Health Department STD Clinic will offer free conventional HIV testing on Friday, June 27, from 8-11:30 a.m. at its Main Clinic located at 2716 W. Central in Wichita.

This year’s NHTD theme is “Take the Test, Take Control.” National HIV Testing Day began in 1995 to promote HIV testing and early diagnosis in an effort to maximize testing opportunities. More than 1.14 million people are living with HIV in the U.S., with about one in five of those unaware of their infections. With early diagnosis, individuals can be placed in treatment and care, resulting in better health outcomes. Persons in treatment have had a 96 percent reduction in transmission rate compared to persons not on treatment.
