Lofton Autopsy Results

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Today, Sedgwick County was made aware of the certified autopsy results of Cedric Lofton. Sedgwick County Corrections employees involved in this matter have been placed on paid administrative leave pending results of the District Attorney’s investigation. Due to the active investigation, County officials cannot comment.

Lofton was briefly in the custody of the Sedgwick County Corrections Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (JIAC) after being booked on September 24, 2021 for four counts of battery on a law enforcement officer by the Wichita Police Department. While in custody, Lofton assaulted JIAC staff and was restrained. Lofton became unresponsive and EMS was summoned. Lofton was transported to a local hospital and died on September 26, 2021.
