Plumbing Division:
The Plumbing Section is responsible for the inspection of Residential & Commercial Systems to ensure and maintain compliance with applicable regulatory guidance governing plumbing and gas piping systems and equipment. The plumbing section responsibilities are:
- Perform inspections in the course of construction, alteration, and repair for compliance with all applicable/adopted codes and safety standards.
- Ensures compliance with plan design as previously submitted and approved.
- Communicate code information and/or references to validate inspection results.
- Monitors permits and ensures that applicable inspections are scheduled and performed.
- Investigates complaints, reported safety issues and potential code violations.

Use of Air Admittance Valves (AAV) MUST Be Approved. When applying for permits with an AAV, please fill out this form and attach to the Plumbing - PLM or Building - BLD permit.

Plumbing Trade Certification Renewals starts Sept. 1, 2025. Please remember to provide proper documentation to staff when renewing your trades certificates. This includes the original CEU's certificate provided by the CEU provider and obtained during the previous cycle. Only those classes that are listed on our web page have been approved for use as required CEU's by MABCD and the KMTRB (Kansas Mechanical Trades Review Board).
MABCD is on a 2-year renewal cycle on certificates and all certificates expire December 31 of each odd-number year. When you renew your certificate, you will have to provide information on the class(es) you attended to show 12 hours of continuing education related to your specific trade, 6 hours of which will have to be on code related to your specific trade.

Plumbing Continuing Education
Plumbing Classes Approved by MABCD and the Kansas Mechanical Trades Review Board:
Vendors may submit a continuing education class for review and approval to either MABCD or the Kansas Mechanical Trades Review Board. The classes linked to above under "Continuing Education" have been approved by MABCD and the Kansas Mechanical Trades Review Board MABCD is not affiliated with the sponsors nor do we have any information on the classes other than what is posted here. Be sure to check back often as more classes are continually added.
The State of Kansas requires 12 classroom hours of continuing education every 2 years or 6 classroom hours every year to renew your Master, Journeyman or Residential Wireman license or certificate.
MABCD will accept Mechanical and Plumbing classes approved by the Kansas Mechanical Trades Review Board. Complete the submittal form below to submit a mechanical or plumbing class for review and approval.
