Policy Changes for Lake Afton
There have been several changes to the rules regarding camping at Lake Afton. Please review before planning your next trip.
Camper is defined as: Any individual, group, and/or camping unit.
- Camping is now restricted to 14 consecutive days. After 14 consecutive days, campers must vacate the park for 5 consecutives days before a new campsite can be established.
- Failure to vacate after the fourteenth (14) day will result in a $15 fee for each day past the limit.
- Reestablishing a campsite before five (5) consecutive days have elapsed will result in a $75 fine for the first offense and increasing for each offense after.
- Any individual, group, and/or camping unit is limited to 56 total days of camping per single calendar year.
- Camping is prohibited inside of or within 30 feet of open sided shelters.
- Enclosing an open sided shelter is prohibited.
- In the event of inclement weather, 1 side of a shelter may be enclosed.
- Campers will be allowed one camping vehicle used for overnight stay per campsite.
- Sedgwick County will no longer accept payment for additional vehicles.
- Exceeding this limit will result in a $75 fine for the first offense.
- One trailer used for transportation of a vessel or personal water craft is allowed in addition to the camping vehicle.
- Exceeding this limit will result in a $75 fine for the first offense.
- Campers cannot leave their campsite unattended for more than 24 consecutive hours
- The can be exceeded only with written notice provided to and receiving authorization from the Park Superintendent.
- After 24 hours, the unattended campsite will be removed and all property will be placed in storage with an initial fee of $30 plus an additional $2 per day.
- After 30 days, any unclaimed items will become the property of the County to be disposed of.
- Campers may NOT use clothes lines or wire unless the line is attached to a vehicle owned by the camper and it must be removed when not in use.
Policy changes that affect all Sedgwick County Parks
- All trash/litter generated during the use of park property must be disposed of property.
- Trash/litter generated outside of the park property MAY NOT be disposed of on park grounds.
- Dumping trash generated outside of park property will result in a $500 fine.
Northeast Sedgwick County Park
- Fishing has always been prohibited at Northeast Sedgwick County Park and will now have a fine of $75 for the first offense.
