Commission approves permanent road closure

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – The Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners on Wednesday voted to close a portion of Webb Road, south of 79th Street South, in Rockford Township. The road, located southeast of Derby, is currently maintained by Rockford Township. The township and its insurance carrier have requested the closure due to safety concerns. It will close today.

Spring Creek flows immediately adjacent to Webb Road and the creek’s water is eroding the road. The average daily traffic count of this road is 66 vehicles. Properties to the south of the closure have access to a paved road on 87th St. South.

Discussions to close the road began in September 2018, involving Sedgwick County, Rockford Township, City of Derby, and nearby property owners. Options were studied and discussed resulting in staff recommending the closure of 775 feet.
