Fire District 1 Update on Park City Fire

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Sedgwick County Fire District 1 (SCFD1) is continuing to treat and monitor hot spots at the Evergreen Pallet Recycling facility in Park City. This incident response is continuing because this is a deep seeded fire into the pile. To date, there has been no fire or damage beyond where the fire started.

The rain has helped with today’s efforts, but SCFD1 is continuing to hit hot pockets of burning material that is creating flame-ups and considerable smoke. Evergreen Company is assisting with moving debris and spreading the burning debris out which makes it easier to extinguish. Although the smoke is heavy on the property, by the time it reaches 53rd street it has reduced to a haze. It is expected that this work will continue through the evening hours and into the night.

SCFD1 has scaled the operation back considerably from earlier in the week and will have a crew of 4-5 personnel on scene overnight and will evaluate the progress again Saturday morning.
