Sedgwick County Division of Finance Honored for Budget Work

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – For the 40th consecutive year, Sedgwick County’s Division of Finance has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of Finance employees to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

To receive the GFOA budget award, Sedgwick County’s Division of Finance goes through a rigorous annual review and scoring of its budget. The work must satisfy several nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation in these categories:

  • As a policy document
  • As a financial plan
  • As an operations guide
  • As a communication device

The budget must also meet 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

“Sedgwick County’s Budget professionals have again met and exceeded superior standards of accuracy and transparency, when preparing the annual County budget,” said Brent Shelton, Deputy Chief Finance Officer for Sedgwick County. “Their dedication has created this ongoing legacy of excellence over four decades.”

GFOA is a professional organization with more than 22,500 members in communities across the U.S. and Canada. It advances high standards in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research. Recipients of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
