Water Line Installation to Close Parts of Main & Elm Streets

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – An excavation project to install a secondary water service line to the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility at 623 E. Elm St., will affect traffic in that area, starting as soon as Thursday morning, April 11, 2024. Construction will close the westbound lane of Elm Street, including parallel parking, from Main to Water Street. Eastbound traffic on Elm Street will remain open. The work will also block part of the far west lane on Main Street at Elm but will NOT limit access into the Sedgwick County Courthouse or Parking Garage. The project is expected to affect traffic for up to two weeks.

By connecting this secondary water service line from a water main on Main Street, the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility will have a reliable, backup source of water for the inmates and staff, when the primary water line is out of service for maintenance or repairs. Sedgwick County asks the public to be patient while this important project is underway.
