A District Court judge has suspended the license of a local contractor.

WICHITA, KAN. – The owner of a Wichita construction and home remodeling business has been found to be in willful violation of a Consent Judgment he entered with the Office of the District Attorney. The District Attorney’s Consumer Protection Division filed a motion against Vonchel Gill, owner of Signature Remodeling, LLC, arguing that he failed to make payments, provide his tax return and refund as he agreed to do in his June, 2023 Consent Judgment.
The Court ruled that Mr. Gill willfully violated his Consent Agreement in case number 2022-CV000346, ordered the full balance of the judgment, $60,322.83, to be due and owing immediately and imposed an additional $20,000.00 civil penalty for the violation. The Court also suspended Mr. Gill’s license to do business in the state of Kansas and temporarily restrained him from engaging in consumer transactions involving home remodeling until the total judgment is paid.
In the original case filed against Mr. Gill and Signature Remodeling, LLC, the Consumer Protection Division alleged he violated the Kansas Consumer Protection Act (KCPA) by failing to provide a material benefit to two consumers and falsely represented he was a licensed contractor. While Mr. Gill denied intentionally violating the KCPA, he accepted a Consent Judgment in order to settle the case. The Consent Judgment placed Mr. Gill on a 72-month probationary period with the Consumer Protection Division, requiring that he make $350.00 monthly payments and provide his tax return and refund.
The District Attorney reminds Sedgwick County residents that contractors for many residential projects are required to be qualified and licensed by the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD). Specific kinds of work, including electrical and plumbing, may also require permits and inspections. Some trades have additional duties. Roofers for example, are required to register with the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.
The latest decision finding a Violation of the Consent Judgment was entered by Judge Faith Johnson on December 23, 2024. The case was originally investigated by Jimmie Merrick with the Office of the District Attorney.
