There's a different twist on the missing jury duty scam.

WICHITA, KAN. – There’s a different twist on the age-old jury duty scam. An area resident received a voicemail from someone claiming to be a sheriff sergeant, and the message said to call back right away. Suspecting the call was a scam, the person who received the voicemail called the number back. The person said he was a sheriff sergeant and needed two surety bonds in the amount of $1,200 each to resolve “the Judge’s citation and fee” for missing jury duty.
The citizen later searched for the sergeant’s name and found the name on the site Linkedin.com. This is apparently how the scammer obtained the law enforcement officer’s name.
The District Attorney’s Consumer Protection Division reminds people a law enforcement organization will never call about missing jury duty and wanting someone to send money by a surety bond or cash card.
If you receive a call like this, it’s best to just hang up.
