For Immediate Release, March 28, 2025
WICHITA, KAN. – On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Wichita Police Department presented the results of the investigation into an allegation of intentional damage to a Tesla Model X on March 20, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. After a full review of the investigation, Johnathan F. Erhart (30), was charged with one count of criminal damage to property, a severity level
9 non-person felony, in violation of K.S.A. 21-5813(a)(1)(c)(2).
Under Kansas law, severity level 9 felony carries a range of sentence of 5 to 17 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections, depending on a defendant’s established criminal history (convictions, not arrests).
After arrest on a charged case, defendants face a “first appearance” before a judge of the District Court. At that hearing, the court will address issues related to appointment of counsel and will schedule the next court date. In all cases, defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent
