WICHITA MAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS TO LIFE FOR AGGRAVATED INDECENT LIBERTIES WITH A CHILD

WICHITA, KS — The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced today that Jared Michael Mendez, 38, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison following his three convictions for Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child. Mendez was also sentenced to 61 months for a conviction of attempted rape, and seven months for a count of Criminal Threat, run concurrently. The sentence was imposed today in Sedgwick County District Court by Judge Tyler Roush.
Mendez was convicted following a jury trial on November 20, 2025. Under Kansas law, he must serve a mandatory minimum of 25 years before becoming eligible for parole consideration on the primary count.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Shannon Wilson, of the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation was conducted by the Wichita Police Department.
