Detention Deputy Arrested 7-20-22

Earlier this week, the Sheriff’s Office received information concerning a Sedgwick County detention deputy conspiring to bring contraband into the Detention Facility. The complaint was investigated by the Investigations Division as well as the Professional Standards Unit of the Sheriff’s Office. During the investigation, detectives determined enough probable cause exist to arrest the detention deputy.

 

The Detention Deputy, Dustin Burnett, began employment with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in January of 2022 and was terminated from the Sheriff’s Office upon his arrest. Burnett was booked on charges of attempted traffic of contraband into a penal institution, conspiracy to traffic contraband into a penal institution, and official misconduct.

Detention Deputies are not above the law and the Sheriff’s Office will always investigate or

assist in the investigation of any crime with the due diligence that the public entrusts in us.

This case will be presented to the District Attorney for review for the requested charges of conspiracy to traffic contraband in a penal institution, traffic contraband in a penal institution, and official misconduct.
