On February 10, 2022 at 1:15 PM, deputies were sent to check the welfare of a man in the 200 block of east 86th Street South after a property owner noticed him lying next to their home. When deputies arrived to check on the man, they discovered he was deceased and had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Vennie Kongvongsay, 23 of Wichita.
On March 22, 2022, deputies arrested Jim Sanchez, 27 of Wichita and Justinlee Welch, 25 of Wichita for First Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Kidnapping in relation to the death of Vennie Kongvongsay.
