Phone Scam Alert 06.03.22

The Sheriff’s Office has been notified of a scam involving someone identifying himself as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office.  The targets of the scam, mostly registered offenders, were called and told they needed to resubmit a DNA sample or face 90 days in jail.  The scammers then offer to waive the jail time and testing if the individual pays a fine. 

 

Scammers prey on people with these official sounding phone calls and make threats of incarceration to make people feel desperate and concerned.  Please don't fall into this trap.  Do not give your personal information out to someone who calls you.  Do not pay someone over the phone with a credit card, debit card, gift card or prepaid debit card unless you initiated the purchase. 

 

The Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines by phone.  The Sheriff’s Office does not solicit monetary donations.  If you receive a call and want to verify its legitimacy, please contact the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office at (316) 660-3900.  If you have been a victim of this scam call the local law enforcement agency in your jurisdiction.
