Submersion 6.29.20

On June 27, 2020, at approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Lake Afton for a possible drowning.    Deputies arrived and learned Zachariah Shepherd, a 29 year old white male, had attempted to swim across the lake.  Shepherd was last seen around 2:00 a.m., on June 27, 2020.  

Fire Department and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks personnel assisted in the attempt to locate Shepherd, but were not successful. 

On June 28, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Shepherd was recovered from the lake.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Although the death of Shepherd is still under investigation, at this time it does not to be suspicious.
