A man was sentenced following a shooting outside a Wichita nightclub.

WICHITA, KAN. – The man who shot and killed another man in the parking lot of an east Wichita nightclub has been sentenced. On October 29, 2023, Terrence J. Johnson shot Jaylon Pete, 23 of Wichita, outside the Onyx Club near Kellogg and Webb Road. Both men were talking to each other outside the exit doors of the club when Johnson pulled a pistol and shot Pete twice. Johnson later fired randomly in the parking lot of the club and wounded two other men in their 20’s.


On July 26, 2024, Johnson pled guilty to 2nd degree murder and attempted 1st degree murder. On Friday, October 4, 2024, District Judge Sean Hatfield sentenced Terrence Johnson, 33 of Wichita, to 427 months in prison with 36 months post release.
