Burgett Sentenced in Deadly Crash

[WICHITA, KANSAS] – Kelvin Burgett was sentenced today in Sedgwick County District Court for the 2022 vehicular crash that resulted in the death of Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy Sidnee Carter.

Appearing before Judge William Woolley, Mr. Burgett was sentenced to 42 months in prison after previously pleading no contest to one count of Involuntary Manslaughter while driving under the influence of THC.

The incident occurred on October 7, 2022, at the intersection of 135th Street North and 29th Street West. Deputy Carter was on duty at the time and died as a result of her injuries.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Woolley ordered Burgett to serve 42 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. The sentence also includes 36 months of post-release supervision.

The District Attorney's office thanks the dedicated investigators of the Kansas Highway patrol, the Wichita Police Department, and all first responders for their work on this case and extends its deepest sympathies to the family and colleagues of Deputy Sidnee Carter.
