Space Heater Safety Tips
Before you pull out your space heater to warm up, be sure to check out these safety tips from Sedgwick County Fire District 1:
- Don’t use a space heater that continues to run, even it’s knocked over. Buy one that has tip-over protection and shuts off automatically. Look for the UL label.
- Don’t put a space heater within three feet of anything that can burn. Place it on a flat surface away from children and pets.
- Don’t use extension cords or power strips. Plug the heater directly into an outlet.
- Don’t leave a space heater running unattended. Turn it off when leaving a room or going to bed for the night.
