Meet Register of Deeds Tonya Buckingham

Tonya Buckingham was elected Register of Deeds for Sedgwick County in 2016 after serving in several roles within the office. She holds a degree in Business Administration from Alabama Christian College and a MiniMPA from Wichita State University. She is also certified as a Register of Deeds through continuing education offered jointly by Kansas State University and Wichita State University. In her role, she oversees the filing of deeds, property documents, and land records, with a strong commitment to customer service, transparency, and public access.

In 2019, Tonya created the Veteran’s Services Division to enhance support for local veterans. While the office has long provided the statutory filing of DD214 military discharge papers, the division also introduced a Military and Veterans Discount Card to encourage veterans to file their DD214 for safekeeping while offering access to discounts at local businesses.

Her office also provides passport services and launched the Property Fraud Alert program, which notifies homeowners when documents are filed on their property.

Tonya is an active member of the Kansas Register of Deeds Association and the Property Records Industry Association. She also supports many community organizations and values giving back through volunteer service and leadership.
