2025 MEASLES CASES IN SEDGWICK COUNTY 

The Sedgwick County Health Department has confirmed a second measles case in an unvaccinated child 0-5 years old.

  • This Sedgwick County case is not connected to the first case reported on May 7 and is also unrelated to the ongoing measles outbreak in southwest Kansas.
  • The source of exposure is unknown; however, there is currently no evidence of community spread.
  • All close contacts have been identified, and there is no risk to the general public.


On May 7, 2025, the Sedgwick County Health Department confirmed its first case of measles in an unvaccinated child between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. (See Press Release | Espanol.)

  • The case was unrelated to the outbreak in southwest Kansas.
  • Prior to 2025, the last measles case in Sedgwick County was in 2017.

The CDC recently updated its measles travel advisory, noting that measles cases are rising in many countries and that all international travelers should be fully vaccinated with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, including an early dose for infants ages 6 to 11 months old.

Additional Measles-Related Facts
  • 2019 is only other year in which there were more than 1,000 cases since measles was declared eliminated from the U.S. in 2000.
  • According to the CDC, a total of 1,274 confirmed measles cases were identified in 2019, only 272 more than the number of cases reported during the first five months of 2025.
