Corrections Advisory Boards

Community Corrections Advisory Board

This board actively participates in the formulation of comprehensive plans for the development, implementation and operation of corrections services funded through the Community Corrections Act. Furthermore, the SCCC Advisory Board shall make formal recommendations to the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners at least annually concerning the comprehensive plan and/or the Community Corrections Act grant request, its implementation and operation.

The board was established on May 21, 1980 by resolution #119-1980. The board consists of 13 appointed members, including:

1) The Sheriff of Sedgwick County or designee; 2) the Chief of Police for Wichita or designee; 3) the District Attorney of the 18th Judicial District or designee; 4) the Administrative Judge of the 18th Judicial District or designee; 5) an educational professional; 6) a probation officer designated by the administrative judge; 7) four members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners; and, 8) three members appointed by the City Council.

Team Justice - Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board

The 17-member Board meets monthly and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the ongoing needs of juveniles in the community. Read the bylaws.

Purpose

The Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board shall:

  • Provide a vision and guidance on juvenile justice matters;
  • Evaluate publicly funded juvenile justice programs and services;
  • Modify the juvenile justice comprehensive strategic plan periodically;
  • Be a catalyst for improved networking of all services to youth and families;
  • Facilitate Grants for juvenile justice programs and services in Sedgwick County;
  • Advocate for all youth in Sedgwick County.

Duties

The Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board shall:

  • Review information on risks and resources for youth at least once every three years;
  • Conduct a series of community meetings on juvenile justice at least once each year;
  • Participate in appropriate activities sponsored by the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority;
  • Review performance measures information on all publicly funded juvenile justice programs;
  • Review grant applications related to juvenile justice programs in Sedgwick County
